"Then that's our destination." Teddy said. "How deep is it into the city?"
"It's at the heart of the city, getting there won't be easy if the zombies are still as prevalent as they say." Shaun answered.
"There's gotta be another way." Mary said, she was clearly worried about the idea of running into a zombie infested city. "And I remember a few people saying hospitals were deathtraps because early on a bunch of people went there before they turned."

"We'll manage." Teddy reinforced. "If it's our only chance at finding what we need to get into Sydney, we have to take it. We've faced worse odds before, we'll get through the city, get what we need and get out. Both of our vehicles are armored enough to take it and we've still got a fair amount of fuel and ammo. We'll make it."

"Everyone alright with this, or have any other ideas?" Teddy asked the group a moment later.
"We can do it, but I'm still worried regardless." Ivy said "But I don't think we have a real choice here, its loot this place or go back to killing and looting Badlanders."
We've faced worse." Malorie said simply.

"We've gotten through worse," Harmony said, almost to herself more than the group.
"There's nothing left for us anywhere else in the world," Jhonny said. "Either we fight our way in and out, or we die trying."

"I'm not a huge fan of that last part." Mary commented with a sigh.
"Good, because that last part isn't happening, we'll be fine."

"There's a storm coming." Malorie said after an extended silence in the truck, seeing lightning dancing around on the horizon as she leaned her head against the window and stared outside. "We could use that to our advantage, right? Like back when the Atlas crashed?"
"It's possible." Teddy commented as he drove. "Why don't you ask on the radio? I'd have your mother do it but she's passed out and she can use the sleep."
"Sure." Malorie said happily, reaching forward and grabbing the radio from the center console in the truck.

"Hey guys, we were wondering what you think about not stopping for the night so we can use this storm coming up to our advantage." Malorie said into the radio, slightly hushed so as not to wake Ivy or Mary.

"My thoughts exactly." Malorie replied before getting off of the radio.

[Monday, November 9th, 2026 - 9:43 PM]

The group continued their path along the Hume Freeway, soon crossing into the oncoming storm which proved to be a rather violent one which would only help them as they moved around the city. By the time they were entering the city limits Ivy and Mary had both awaken thanks to increasingly loud thunder and bumpy road conditions closer to Melbourne. The group was fortunate enough that the Citylink highways were clear enough for Teddy to be able to shimmy most obstructions out of the way. Zombies were clumped up at spots along the winding path, but the groups they encountered were quickly crushed and forced aside by the tow truck.

As they pulled off of the Citylink and onto Flemington road the difference in zombies from the highway was night and day, with large numbers scattered all over the streets and sidewalks.
"Everyone make sure you're buckled up, hang on tight." Teddy said moments before the truck started knocking zombies aside left and right. Lightning lit up the sky every five to ten seconds, allowing everyone to make out their surroundings as the group drove past the burned out husk of the Royal Children's hospital.

"Shaun says we're getting close now." Church's voice told Teddy and his family over the radio.
Sure enough within another block the group came upon the Royal hospital, which to their relief was not burned to the ground or seriously damaged in some way other than erosion from where they could see.
"There, we could take that spot marked ambulance entry!" Ivy pointed out as she leaned forward and looked the building over as lightning illuminated it. Teddy took her advice, pulling the tow truck into the ambulance parking garage with Shaun's FJ cruiser following. The storm once again proved invaluable as a minimal number of stragglers followed after the two vehicles in comparison to what would have been a veritable sea of undead had they tried this in broad daylight.

"We need to get in and out as soon as possible," Shaun said, unsheathing his machete. "A couple of us need to stay here and keep the vehicles clear of the dead so we can make a quick exit."
"Me and Harmony have that covered." Quintin said.

"Sounds good." Teddy replied. "Remember everyone, we want these bags as full as possible with any medicine we can find. Last thing we want is that **** at the checkpoint turning us away again."
"Yeah, I'd be a little more than annoyed if we had to double back to this **** place." Ivy added. "Lets get this over with."

( https://listenonrepeat.com/?v=YtJL1J1Vk ... ed_Version) )

With that the rest of the group headed into the hospitals Emergency Department from the ambulance entry with their flashlights on. To the groups dismay there proved to be just as many zombies as they'd feared, literally hundreds of zombies clad in everything from tattered hospital gowns and doctors outfits to nothing at all. The moment the flashlights lit up the E.R the massive crowd inside all turned their attention to the source, prompting the group to begin opening fire in order to carve a path out towards another room of the hospital, hopefully one containing less infected so they could focus on looting. The group kept a tight, disciplined formation with Teddy, Jhonny and Shaun at the forefront while Ivy and Church guarded the rear with Malorie and Mary taking down zombies coming at them from the sides.

The desperate melee to the hallway outside of the emergency department paid off, although it had cost the group significant amounts of their dwindling ammunition in the process. A gurney was holding two metal doors just barely open, as Jhonny grabbed the door to hold it open Teddy grabbed hold of the gurney, spun it around and rammed it into the encroaching horde as everyone else ducked into the hallway. Teddy used all of his strength to keep the zombies at bay long enough for everyone to get to relative safety before he ducked into the hallway with Jhonny slamming the doors shut and placing a police baton he'd found on the floor between the handles to secure it for the time being.

Teddy looked back down the hall, finding Shaun and Malorie both busily hacking away at some approaching zombies with their melee weapons. Fortunately the hallway was a great deal clearer than the emergency department, the problem being that there would be no medical supplies to be found in the halls.

"The sign in this stairwell says general medicine and general surgery are both two floors up!" Ivy called out as she peered into the stairwell with her flashlight. The group didn't need to hear anything else as they headed into the stairwell and quickly hurried to the third floor.

Entering the third floor from the stairwell the group felt a slight sense of relief to find it only had roughly a quarter of the zombies as the emergency department lurking about, although that still amounted to a dangerous enough number of undead to deal with as they looted.

"Shaun, Ivy, Jhonny and I will hold them off while the rest of you start filling up these bags with anything and everything medical! Everyone save your ammo if you can cause we'll need everything we've still got to get ourselves back through that damn emergency room!" Teddy said, passing the empty bag he was carrying to Malorie since Mary was already carrying one of her own. Teddy, Shaun, Ivy and Jhonny proceeded to form a protective ring around the other group members as they worked to clear out any cabinet, shelf and container they could find. The four of them quickly hacked away at any zombies that drew too close, wanting to be sure the rest of the group didn't feel too much pressure and end up bagging items that the Australians might not accept.

"I'm full!" Malorie called out after about five minutes of looting.
"I'm about half way there-" Mary said after taking her flashlight out of her mouth, having just finished rifling through a drawer. "-but I think this spot is about out of stuff!"
"She's right." Church added, dropping the last couple of antibiotics into Mary's bag. "We need to move on to general surgery, with some luck we'll find more there!"

With that the group set out to make their way to the next section of the hospital in hopes of finding more of the vital medical supplies. By this point some of the group members were beginning to experience fatigue from the frantic moving and constant use of their melee weapons, despite this none of them slowed down or missed a beat as they continued to general surgery leaving a path of dead zombies in their wake. As they reached general surgery they found it to be about as packed as the previous department, and as a result they employed the same tactics as before with Teddy, Jhonny, Ivy and Shaun serving as a protective wall while Church and the twins cleared out the area.

"That's it, this thing's stuffed!" Church called out after taking the bag from Mary who was being weighed down by it and emptying one last armful of supplies into it.
"Then let's get out of here!" Teddy said, with the group immediately beginning to trace their steps back. While running towards the stairwell the shoulder strap for Malorie's duffle bag snapped causing her to drop it, spilling some of the supplies out onto the floor. Teddy and Mary were the first to notice as Malorie got down onto the ground to start scraping the supplies off of the floor, with both returning to help her.

"Go and stick with the group, we won't be far behind!" Teddy told Mary, who listened and ran to catch back up with the group who had now stopped altogether to see why Malorie had stopped.

"There, last one now let's-" Teddy started to say after zipping Malorie's bag shut and handing it to her, only to be cut off by the wooden door behind him giving way nearly hitting him as a large group of zombies forced their way into the hallway. With Malorie's assistance from grabbing his arm and pulling with all of her might Teddy narrowly avoided death, however they were now in the predicament of being separated from the rest of the group who was on the other side of the wall of undead pouring out of the room.

"Dad, Malorie!" Mary yelled out, frightened as she hadn't seen if Teddy and Malorie had been taken down by the sudden horde or not. Ivy raised her AUG to fire on the horde, but Shaun smacked the barrel of her gun down.
"We need that ammo to get out of the emergency department!"
"That's my husband and daughter on the other side of that!"
"And you have a daughter here too, you want her to die also because we wasted our ammo up here where we couldn't afford to?! There's nothing we can do for them right now they just gotta find their own way out!"
"Ivy you know Teddy and Malorie can handle it!" Jhonny yelled to her. "We gotta go, now!"

"Try meeting us at another entrance, we'll stay out there as long as we can!" Ivy attempted yelling to Teddy and Malorie, although with the deafening enraged moans and growls of the zombies chances were they couldn't hear her. Taking Mary's hand Ivy reluctantly turned from the horde and followed her group down the stairwell and to the emergency department, ready to fight their way out of the hospital.

"Dad what do we do?!" Malorie asked after dropping several zombies with her Walther. "They're still coming out of that room, we aren't going to be able to push through there!"
"There are other entrances, we just gotta get to one and radio them to bring one of the vehicles around!" Teddy said back, reloading his KSG as he and Malorie got to running through the halls. The two of them were moving considerably faster than when they were weighed down by all of the other group members, now having the ability to duck and dodge between zombies that weren't clustered together.

"Dad, there's another stairwell!" Malorie pointed out hurriedly as the father-daughter duo nearly passed it up in their adrenaline fueled sprint. With time being of the essence lest they risk being left behind, Teddy didn't follow the cautionary steps he usually did when dealing with zombie infested areas. Without a second thought he twisted the doorknob, but he didn't need to pull it open as several dozen zombies on the other end did that for him as they forced their way towards him and Malorie. Teddy was caught off guard, losing his footing as the door pushed him, falling flat on his back with zombies bearing down on him.

Malorie took aim and dropped one before it could descend upon her father, but the gun ran dry after that last round. Teddy managed to bring his KSG back up in the short time Malorie bought him, striking a zombie in the side of the face with the butt of it as the undead tried to fall onto him for an easy meal. The strike knocked the zombie off to the side and onto the ground, allowing Teddy to fire his next buckshot shell dropping two approaching zombies. While Teddy did this Malorie drew Michelle's revolver to take down several zombies coming from behind them that were getting too close for comfort.

Cocking the shotgun Teddy was ready to fire his next round at the zombies still pouring from the stairwell until the zombie he'd struck earlier grabbed hold of his left arm and sunk its teeth into it. Teddy yelled out in pain and horror, immediately realizing what had happened. Malorie heard the yell and looked back at her dad, quickly putting down the zombie who'd bitten him before reaching down and grabbing under his arms to try and help him to his feet, not realizing yet that he was bitten. As she helped Teddy get back up he put several more rounds into the zombies in the stairwell before rushing forward and shoving the last couple that were standing over the railing to their deaths.

Malorie followed him into the stairwell, shutting the door right behind them. Teddy put a hand on his wound, confirming for himself that the bite had indeed broken deep into his skin. Still he made no mention of it for the moment, wanting to make sure Malorie's head was kept cool for as long as possible.

"Come on, there's no time to waste!" Teddy said, grabbing his daughters hand and quickly rushing down several flights of stairs with her. As they reached the main entrance lobby of the hospital they bared witness to a massacre that had occurred there at the beginning of the outbreak, rows and rows of skeletons lined up neatly with holes in their heads. The two paid little mind to that however, to their horror they caught a glimpse of their vehicles tail lights moving off into the distance.

"No no no no.." Teddy said to himself more than anything, Malorie saw it too but had no words as she saw the vehicles leaving. The two raced out onto the street, with Teddy retrieving his walkie talkie the moment he was out in the open.

"Ivy, Shaun, Church someone can you hear me?! Malorie and I are still here, we're still alive!" Teddy pleaded into the radio, receiving nothing but static in response. A moment later several lightning strikes illuminated the growing horde in the streets in front of them.

"You stay close.." Teddy said to Malorie after loading the last shells he had into his KSG.

While everyone else went into the hospital, Quintin and Harmony finished off the stragglers that followed the group into the ambulance garage. Once there was a lull in the combat, Quintin started looking for a way to shut the rusted metal doors, which were hanging over their heads in the upright position.
“See if there’s a way to shut these doors.” Quintin said, rushing from location to location around the garage.
“What am I looking for?”
“Anything! A pull chain, a release lever, something to get them down so the zombies can’t get in here!”
“I don’t see anything!” Harmony said, slightly annoyed with her father's orders. In her mind, it was easier to simply fight the zombies off instead of wasting time trying to find a deterrent that might not work. “They’re probably rusted in place anyway!”

“****...only use your shotgun if your sword isn’t enough.” Quintin said, looking out into the street, where more zombies were approaching.
“I know.” Harmony replied. They were forced to fend off each zombie that managed to find its way into the area, but as the father and daughter relentlessly fired upon the undead with their shotguns and slashed at them with their swords, more flowed towards them from the street. The storm could only do so much to camouflage their gunfire, and soon it became a flurry of constant combat, both with blades and the dwindling ammo each of them carried on their person.
“****, ****, ****!” Quintin said. He took a few steps outside and looked down the street, and he noticed a horde approaching. It appeared as though there were hundreds of zombies all packed together, and the mass of limbs and teeth was heading down the street to the hospital. Harmony noticed her dad’s uneasiness.
“Are we leaving now?”
“No, not yet-”
"Are we going to?"
"Yeah," Quintin replied, aiming his shotgun. "When that horde gets to the doors, we’re gone." He and Harmony continued fighting pairs and trios of zombies off without much trouble, but soon the horde was bearing down on them. Just before they were overwhelmed, the rest of the group burst back into the ambulance garage. As soon as he saw the group had returned, Quintin jumped into the driver’s seat of the tow truck, after knocking a zombie to the ground by kicking its legs out from under it; Shaun slid behind the wheel of the FJ Cruiser. The vehicles peeled out of the parking area as soon as they had confirmation that everybody was on board. By that point, the horde had created a veritable wall of bodies, but the tow truck had the weight and horsepower to push most of them out of the way, with the smaller vehicle following close behind so it didn’t get cut off. The unlucky zombies that were forced underneath the truck were crushed and mangled, but eventually they made it past the edge of the horde and into thinner zombie numbers.

“Did we get enough stuff?” Quintin asked, exhausted. He wiped sweat and a few specks of blood from his forehead with the back of his hand. "We can't turn around."

"Yeah, we got enough stuff." Mary said after a moment. "But my dad and sister are back there!"
Ivy said nothing, she sat shaking with tears pouring down from her eyes while she watched the hospital disappear into the distance.

"If they can make it out of the city, then they know where to go from there." Quintin replied, somewhat disappointed that Teddy and Malorie got left behind.
