Well, the Rotting has begun.

I finally noticed my perishables start to spoil today. The electricity went out a game day or two ago, and my refrigerator finally lost its ability to artificially preserve food. Most of the meat I had stored - chicken, salmon, and all of my meat patties - spoiled about a day after I lost the watermelons and potato salad to mold; the other fruits and vegetables I have in the fridge probably won't last much longer. Now that my own food is compromised, there's no doubt that the other houses and businesses in the city will have fridges full of rotten food as well, although maybe I'll still find the occasional TV dinner or can of tuna buried behind the rotten stuff...I'm glad I stocked up on non-perishables and canned goods early on.
The water system shut off as well, and again, I stockpiled early on with bowls, pots, and other containers, so I'm not in any immediate danger of dehydration. I also have the materials for rain barrels, but I have no idea how effective they'll be. It's only been sixteen days and ten hours, and with both vital infrastructures failing almost simultaneously, I'm now officially living off the grid in Cortman Medical.

The newest update apparently voids all old games, so I'm staying in Build 23 until further notice so I can continue playing as Jhonny.

Well, I armed myself with a kitchen knife, since I was only a block from my base and the area was very low-risk. I didn't encounter anything other than stragglers until I opened a bathroom door and there were literally five zombies inside. I was bitten twice and scratched once, and I didn't even get to go out in a blaze of glory either. I made it back to my base and loaded all of my ammo into my inventory just to die on the floor. It was the stupidest way to die and it wasn't even my fault since they were crammed in a tiny side room waiting for me.

Why on earth would you head out with anything less than a baseball bat once you have gear? Lmao that just makes no sense to me even if I'm in my base I've always got a bat on me, the knife has no knock back for stuff like that.

Like I said, the areas was super low-risk. I set off two house alarms throughout the course of the game in that area and only like four zombies showed up, rofl. I didn't want to waste my good weapons. I killed maybe a dozen stragglers with the knife while I was going through the neighborhood (some of them in pairs) but I can't take on five that surprise me at once. Right when I opened the door they were doing the biting animation, before the **** room even rendered. I doubt anything other than a shotgun would have helped.

I started a new game (this time with Jeff) with a few major changes: I bumped the loot rarity up to normal (I think, I'm not sure, lol), zombies are now shamblers, and the game is in real-time.
